In his work, Jesse Meredith simultaneously explores and questions the expectations of photography: that it is a representation of reality, that it is a record of a moment in time, that a photograph can be traced back to its subject. By using the photograph as a starting point and digitally introducing new elements, he causes a wavering in the typical considerations of photography. The cultural ramifications of immediacy and truth in photographs are called to attention as well, by the dissection of photographic elements and the removal of information.

Jesse draws on his background in sculpture and collage in his approach to photography. He manipulates his images digitally, taking an original picture and responding on formal and conceptual levels. His alterations are subtle, genuine. He makes no attempt to hide the device; rather, he integrates it into the work itself.

Jesse is from Brooklyn. He grew up spending half his time in the city and the other half in rural Gilboa, New York. He has a BFA in photography from SUNY Purchase. His work has been featured in Humble Arts Group Show No. 29, iheartphotograph, and the catalog of "Definitions" at Photoforum PasqueArt, Beinne. He also posts work on www.rippedosaurusflex.com.
